I have come to the conclusion at 52 that I am not bullet proof and I need to pay attention to my bone health!
That means that I need to do everything I can to keep my body healthy and able to take on life’s challenges in order to live a full, engaged, happy and active life!
I recently read an article about Bone Health and osteoporosis. It talked about what recent studies are showing and what we can DO to keep our bones healthy.
Bottom line, drinking more milk or taking calcium is NOT ENOUGH to help us fight inevitable bone loss.
Per the article, “Bone mass and strength are maintained through the balance of bone breakdown and bone buildup forces. Both building up new bone and breaking down old bone are essential, as bone needs to repair itself and “remodel” itself on a daily basis. Excessive bone weakening and osteoporosis occur when, over time, the forces of bone breakdown are much greater than the forces of bone buildup.”
This means that a sedentary lifestyle where we are not stressing our bodies and “breaking down old bone” through vigorous exercise is a key contributing factor! Nutrition and stress levels also affect bone density and health.
So what can you do TODAY to take a step towards better bone health?
First, step up or revamp your exercise commitment to be consistent and a priority. And bone health is just ONE great positive result from that! Also, set the goal of eating 3 to 4 cups of vegetables a day and getting your nutrition back on track. Or begin meditating to help reduce emotional stress.
And I have GREAT ideas around all of these changes that I can help you with if you would like. Just reply here and I’d love to talk with you about them!
In Good Health,
Diana
