I am reading a great book right now (listening to it on audible, actually) called “The Mood Elevator” by Larry Senn. I haven’t finished yet, but I’m finding it SOO fascinating, motivating and eye opening about the power of our thoughts on our world and the actions we take and how WE CAN CHOOSE how we allow outside circumstances to affect us.

 There’s a GREAT section about how exercise is considered a “mood interrupter” and how the chemicals in our brains are altered with exercise, thus helping us shake off a bad mood, depression, be more creative, open to new ideas, open and resilient to people and situations around us.

Our brains rely on regular exercise to keep our mental faculties in tip-top shape!  But it’s important to remind ourselves that exercise ALSO has such a HUGE affect on our mood, choices and ability to be resilient and positive in our ever changing and distracting world! And the thing is, many times we SKIP our exercise when we are distracted by other priorities, stresses and lethargy. We gotta stop doing that! 🙂

 More and more hard science is backing up that EXERCISE (aerobic and strength) has HUGE BENEFITS that not only affect HOW WE THINK (and resets our brain from stress) but also PROTECTS OUR BRAIN from future scary diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia!

 Here are a few highlights from my snooping this weekend! Latest Research on Exercise and Mental Health

– Recent research links exercise to less depression, better memory and quicker learning. Studies also suggest that exercise is, as of now, the best way to prevent or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s.

– Scientists don’t know exactly why exercise changes the structure and function of the brain for the better, but it’s an area of active research. So far, they’ve found that exercise improves blood flow to the brain, feeding the growth of new blood vessels and even new brain cells and helps repair and protect brain cells from degeneration.

 – Exercise is regenerative medicine – restoring and repairing and basically fixing things that are broken. Repairs like this throughout the body may be the reason exercise has been shown to extend life span by as much as five years.

 – Moderate to high-intensity exercise may slow down the aging of cells. As humans get older and their cells divide over and over again, their telomeres–the protective caps on the end of chromosomes–get shorter. Exercise, appears to slow aging at the cellular level.

 The #2 Scariest Disease for our generation is Alzheimer’s and memory loss! If we can do ANYTHING to help us have longer, vital and memory-filled lives, shouldn’t we DO IT, make it a PRIORITY? 

 Exercise is proving and will continue to prove that it makes a difference in your NOW and your FUTURE and your loved one’s futures! Make your plan to get in 5 hours of exercise this week!

 You have so much to gain and too much to lose if you don’t!
